Creating Change by Empowering Minds and Achieving Greatness

Why It’s Important for People to Have Life Skills. Why ILS is a lifelong passion of mine to offer services in Independent living Life Skills Training.

Life skills are the behaviors that people need to have in order to function successfully in life. Life skills are very important skills to have early in life before adulthood so that one is prepared when going out into the world alone to become living independently.

Without these skills, most people constantly have difficulty in certain areas of their lives that never go well until they learn how to do these various skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and many more that are important skills to have.

If the skills individuals lack are the more important ones, such as paying bills, maintaining stable housing, bathing, taking care of one’s health this can create life-altering problems for people in their lives.

However, the good news is that every single skill can be learned!

The trick to doing this is for individuals to be able to recognize problem areas and take steps to fix them and create a positive mindset and a list of Goals.

Some individuals already have some of these skills, but nobody has all of them, but the

more you possess, they can function much easier in the community.

I call this “packing my toolbox”. The more tools you have, the easier it is to deal with the issues that come your way in life, no matter how big or small.

It is never too late to learn the basics for successful daily living, known as Independent living skill

Doing so can improve your relationships, earning power, ability to find a good job or career, future homeownership, as well as becoming an entrepreneur by stabilizing your finances and many other goals in life. All things are possible with goal setting and staying positive and focused.

Why Don’t People Know These Things?

There are several reasons why people never learn these skills. For example,

1. they may not have seen a reason for learning some of them,

2. generational disadvantages or parents may not have known about them or taught them to their children,

3. schools may have excluded them from their curriculum, students who are continually absent from school may have left themselves with learning gaps.

4. Individuals may suffer from an Intellectual Disability that causes them not to comprehend or understand and process information as others due to cognitive delays. Lack of being able to read or write.

There is a tendency for people to believe that if you don’t know these things, you are incapable of learning or being taught, but this simply is not true. Every one of these

skills can be learned by the average person.

Why are Life Skills Important?

Life Skills are learned behaviors that help people to deal effectively with the activities of everyday living. This can be extremely important, especially for those individuals or households that come from intergenerational economic disadvantage, and unfavorable circumstances or conditions, that can reduce the chance of success or effectiveness. It has been researched that poverty, lack of education, and basic life skills can negatively affect economic growth, by affecting the growth of equal human equality that can negatively impact individuals’ self-worth and self-esteem. This can exhibit an increase of behaviors such as domestic violence, suicide, drugs and alcohol, and medical health and high increases in Black and Latino mortality rates in infant increases Most times this may be due to generational misfortune, and lack of education, unjust civil rights violations from being denied the use of access to equal opportunities or resources in the community, whether, racial, gender or physical and mental disabilities. Not knowing how to do some of them is not cause for shame, but refusing to take the time to learn them is a major mistake that can damage or ruin lives that may not have any community support.

If individuals accept the fact that they don’t have all of the skills needed in order to be more successful in life, everyone should be able to obtain a life skills curriculum to learn what life skills are and how learning these skills can help them create more positive life changes.

It’s important, that all people, especially those in disadvantaged communities no matter the race or gender can take the steps by creating goals to learn so that they can be happier and healthier in the future

Why are Organization Skills Important

Another extremely important skill is the ability to organize and prioritize. Without it, life can be chaotic and cause you to lose total control.

People feel they are too busy to become organized, but what they don’t realize is that once they take the time to set up a good system, they actually increase the time they have available to them. This is why teaching these skills are extremely important in the community.

There are all sorts of articles and videos online that show people how to organize their houses,

belongings, paperwork, and finances. By taking the time to use these resources, you’ll find that as you work through them you will lose the clutter and reduce your frustrations. It is so much easier to find :

● a dress in a well-organized than in a cluttered one,

● a tool in a garage that is properly set up, or scheduling medical appointments.

● a condiment in a pantry that is clean of old, excess items that you never use!

The trick to becoming organized is to prioritize your needs and then attack the problem areas by creating goals one day at a time.
